This is a large master planned community on the west side of the I-5 freeway originally planned by Dale Poe Development Company in 1987, and now by Lennar, one of America's largest development companies.
A sprawling County Park, Valencia Marketplace and Stevenson Ranch Shopping Center are recent additions to the community as well as two elementary schools, plus popular restaurants and hotel facilities. This area backs to the historic oil-mining town of Mentryville, founded in 1875.
By 1914 when the Old Ridge Route opened Castaic became a highway stopover with small cafes and vehicle services. It is best know today as the home of Castaic Lake which is a massive recreational asset to North Los Angeles County and millions of annual tourists, plus film opportunities, lake and land sports, camping and a number of planned residential communities.
In recent years the Valencia Commerce Center "The Gateway" was established at Castaic's Southern border with Valencia, at the I-5 and Highway 126 interchange. The Commerce Center is a new hub for high-tech development and specialty manufacturing. Many more industrial and commercial giants are on their way.
Valencia: 91355, 91354 & 91381
Located in the heart of Santa Clarita Valencia hosts the Santa Clarita City Hall, Valencia Civic Center, Sheriff's Department, major government complexes, and the County Courts. Valencia is also home to the local community college and hospital (College of the Canyons and Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital), plus California Institute of the Arts, Six Flags Magic Mountain & Hurricane Harbor, Valencia Town Center Mall and shopping & entertainment complex, and the Hyatt Hotel and Conference center.
Valencia Blvd., runs east across the valley through parts of Saugus and Newhall, becoming Soledad Canyon Road and connects to Highway 14.
Founded in 1876, this is the oldest and most historic area in Santa Clarita and boasts many registered "Points of Interest." It was an original oil, mining and farming community which has grown to include many diverse residential developments and "ranch-like" housing communities, a large Senior Center, senior housing complexes, and Masters College.
People are intrigued by its historical flavor: the Old Saugus Depot and Train Station, the William S. Hart Museum, Heritage Junction, Gene Autry's Melody Western Film Ranch, Placerita Nature Center and Park, the "Walk of Western Stars," and the annual Cowboy Poetry and Music Festival.
Saugus: 91350 & 91390
Founded in 1887 this mainly residential and commercial community was originally a Southern Pacific Railway stop. It is home to Santa Clarita's new "Central Park," boasting acres and acres of ball fields and recreational facilities. It is a popular area with rolling hills and picturesque winding canyons. Saugus is also the location of our primary Metrolink Station, and couples to multiple train destinations.
Canyon Country and Sand Canyon: 91351 & 91387
Soledad Canyon Road runs directly across our valley and is a primary shopping artery surrounded by a diversity of residential developments, Metrolink train access, and a ten movie screen shopping and entertainment complex.
From Canyon Country, Soledad Canyon runs west through parts of Saugus and Newhall, to Valencia. There the road becomes Valencia Blvd., and connects to Interstate 5.
There is a "City of Santa Clarita." Many of the aforementioned "communities/towns" are within the legal boundaries of the City of Santa Clarita. Some are not. Whether folks are in the "City" or simply a community in the Santa Clarita Valley, we all consider ourselves proud "Santa Claritans!"
